As Parisians await the arrival of English football favourite David Beckham with bated breath, some French politicians have voiced concerns over his expected €10 million salary, which they say should be capped.

French Prosecutors have called for the case involving football players Franck Ribery and Karim Benzama and an underage prostitute in 2010 to be dropped, saying the players were unaware Zahia Dehar was a minor at the time.

French coach Laurent Blanc called up Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud (pictured) for the first time Thursday, making him part of the squad that will play friendly matches against the United States and Belgium later this month.

A week after French football chiefs were accused of setting ethnic quotas in youth academies, the subsequent row has raised the sensitive question of multiculturalism in Les Bleus, and France as a whole.
